Im in grade 12, please help me with this career question?

okay so im kind of looking into becoming a Psychologist or psychiatrist but i want to know some things about them:

1. what are the similarities and differences between the 2

2. how many years of studying would i need to do for both

3. what is the salary for both-at start and after some experience, in america and canada

  1. The main difference between being a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist is that a Psychiatrist is an actual MD. You have to go to medical school in order to become one. For that you're looking at approximately 11-13 years of schooling, interning, residency, etc. (including your 4 year bachelor's degree).

    As far as salaries for both, that depends on whether you intend to go into private practice (therapist), clinical, or research. My sister in law got her bachelors, masters and PhD in child psychology, but couldn't find a job in that field so she went back and got a nursing degree.

    I have a family friend who is a clinical Psychiatrist at a hospital in NYC and also teaches a course at Columbia University who makes in the mid 6-figures.
