  1. motocross bikes go down to change down  gears but u dont need to pull in the clutch. u can pull the clutch in to change up though it makes the shift smoother and u dont have to shut of that way

  2. well thats just something you'll have to get used to.  everyone is gonna be nervous as beginners, as i was.  but after 3 years of racing, its no problem.

    as for down shifting:

    1)pull in the clutch

2)tap the gearshift with your foot.  you will be able to feel it move down.

    3)slowly let out the clutch.

    hope that helps!

  3. The only way to get over being nervous is to keep doing what it is you are trying to achieve.  If you are only going out and riding motocross as someone else wants you to then don't.  But if you really want to ride then just keep practicing and try to remember that if you hold your line and don't wander the riders coming up from behind know what they are doing and will get round you.  Don't look over your shoulder as it just puts you off balance and if racing you loose ground every time you do it.

You can only get better by doing.  Good luck!

Also what bolger has said about changing gears  is correct just remember to release the clutch evenly.  many people who race mx actually start in 2nd or 3rd gear depending upon what suits you as first is too slow for the jump from the gate.

  4. My first reaction to this question was WTF. your own question tells you not to bother. but you raise an interesting point as to changing down gears. the answer from J bolger is probably correct. but in my experience racing bikes usually change down by kicking  the gear lever up.  this may just be the case for road racing. its to allow up shifts while in the corner without putting your ankle at risk if you crash out. may be different for MX i will have to check.

  5. Well I have been racing for 9 years and I never use the clutch to shift. Just let off the gas, and shift down (or up), usually this isn't a problem because your already slowing down for a turn and the gas should be off anyway. Unless your in deep soil like sand and need to shift down (anyway its still the same)

For driving, it is scary at first but you will get used to it after you have more seat time.

  6. People always say well just do it! No! I know what it's like to do something completely against my minds will.. It is a S****y *** feeling ill tell you that. But afterwords it is usually worth it! Just practice. The human mind will adapt... I was really bad at riding once to..We all were!
