  1. make sure that you stay balanced and that the waves aren't to rough. watch the waves for a while to see how hard you need to paddle and how the other surfers like the waves. i got the hang of it on my second or third day when i first started out. hope this helps, and have fun surfin' dude!

P.S. do not forget a wet suit!

  2. If your speaking skimboarding on  just the flat tide then that's nothing like surfing, if into the waves then I would think you might have the balance down, and somewhat carving the wave. Not much of an answer, hope the comparisons help?..., i tend to not be able to give tips, because i figure people can just look at someone surfing and know what to do..,

  3. Yeah, whats a skimborder??

  4. Learn the terrain.

More than skateboarding, skimboarding, snowboarding or any other sport, surfing is one of the few sports with moving terrain. Once you learn how to read waves and get a good drop, the rest comes pretty easily.

Also, please for the sake of everybody in the water, learn surfing etiquette.

There are a lot of things you need to know about who has the right of way on a wave, when to get out of the way, your turn in the line-up, etc. It's very imporant in surfing because if you drop in on someone, you could get seriously injured or beaten up.

    Have fun man.
