  1. It's pretty common for all hotels to do that, even here in the US.  It depends on the hotel though.  Our resort didn't allow long-distance calls (the phones just wouldn't do them) and local calls were free, so there was no need to charge.  The mini-bar and liquor dispenser were included in the vacation price, so there was no need to charge that either.  So they didn't take our card.  But they did have our travel agent's information to get in touch in case of damage, so I guess that's how they would have done it.  And maybe they would have taken a card for that had we not gone through an agent.

Anyway, it's legit and they won't charge the card unless you do something that calls for it.

  2. no and don't give them a credit card number, they may want it for a towel but not necessary

  3. Not sure about your hotel but lots of hotels and resorts do this. It's in case you make long distance calls or trash the room and take off. Then they can still charge you. If you don't trash the room or make long distance calls and take off then it's not a problem, they don't put any charges on your card.

Even if you do make long distance calls or trash the room - if you show up to check out then they will give you the option of how you want to pay, on the card you gave them, or some other card/cash/travelers check etc.

    I don't think it's a big deal.

  4. Hi,

The reason for the use of your credit card is the Hotel has a $.50 per call charge for all local calls made in the area. There is a big fee or charge for all long distance calls. Check with your Hotel front desk for the charges rates. There is a charge for room service. If your order in your room you can expect a charge.

You will also get a charge if you check out a beach towel and fail to return it. This can cost you up to $20.00 US.

If you have a mini-bar in your room you will be charged a lot of money for what you use. Two things you really need to bring, Sun Block and Bug Spray. The Yucatan is covered with swamp like areas and the bugs can be brutal.

Your All-Inclusive should cover all food, drinks and tips. You'll have to pay for extras like any tours, or shopping trips things like that.

    Enjoy

  5. They didnt ask us for one and yes everything is included.  We gave everyone  a dollar or so for tip for drinks and great service but you dont have to spend a dime if you dont want to.
