  1. It feels overwhelming because there's so much to do, and you don't know where to begin.

    Try this:

-put the assignments in order (decide which one you are gonna do first, second, etc)

-Decide to work on the first one for one hour today, another hour tomorrow, and so on until you finish. It's important to define the time of work, so you actually get to sit down and start without the dreading feeling that this might take you all day.

-Do the same with the rest of assignments. And make sure to give yourself a little something nice when you are done. You deserve it.

Sounds silly, but works! Good luck!

  2. Well, I am not your Mom, but I know if you were my kid, you would have a different curriculum.

I really believe that children should learn what interests them.  My kids had the main rule --

    they had to be learning.

I didn't care what they were learning, but they had to be learning something productive.

One loved computers, so he chose programming books.  He also loved the piano, so he practiced classical music everyday.

One kid loved animals.  We ordered some of those "be a vet tech" classes and bought lots of vet books for him.  He learned about animals.  He was especially interested in "mad cow disease" back when it came out. He also joined the local ESDA when he was old enough.  He is still a part time paramedic.

One son loved carpentry.  He built and landscaped. He also took ministerial classes and eventually became a minister. He loved to play the piano and guitar.

My daughter loves sewing.  She devours sewing books and quilting books.  She loves animals, and reads up on all sorts of dog diseases. She's 17 now, and still follows her interests.

If you look at what kids learn it covers math, science, fine arts, language arts, and even social science.  You just have to let them learn and fit what they are learning into the subject areas.

They all learned math the Moore way be running a business for money.  My daughter breeds dogs.  She also has another outside job.  All the kids helped their dad with some small "paperwork" type things in his business to earn money.

I am just a firm believer that kids should learn by doing and following their heart. I'm sorry you have to do something that has no interest for you. You do have motivation, it just isn't motivation for writing about something you don't' care about.

  3. So get off of Y!A and get started!

    Go! Go! Go!

    You can do it!

  4. do you want a dead end job  or do you want money , nice car , nice house and hollidays?

  5. Do it for your family....

  6. lmao let me tell u something, once u sit down, write 2 sentences, thats it! 2 sentences!, u will be like omfg this is so relaxing and fun, then there ya go, couple hours go by then OMFG i just finished my 3 rd essay woooooooot only 2 left omg 2 will only take maybe another 2 hours!!!! then no more worrying no more acne, im so happy!

  7. do it for me! lol

  8. Ok first take a deep breath- then put them in order and concentrate on doing and finishing one at a time. Don't even give the others a thought until you have finished the first and then move on to the next and so forth. If for some reason you don't get them all done is it gonna be the end of the world? This is what homeschooling is all about. Take your time- don't rush thru. Personally i would rather see 2 well written essays then 5 sloppy ones. Good luck. Just relax.

  9. I felt like that when I was doing nvq 4 and working full time,I had to force myself to sit there and get it done.I used to put my work near me and pencil a few ideas, you will find you get going that way. Also do some then plan to go out after to help you unwind,or relax in front of TV etc.

  10. Take them one at a time.....don't think about all five.

What are they to be about?

  11. You're looking at it the wrong way. When's your due date? April 30? If that's the case, you have 6 days for each essay.

You can do this. You're already looking at it as individual essays. That's good. Now break it down more.

Spend an hour each day working on your essay. If you want to do more, then do so, but do at least an hour. If you start to get tired and stressed enough that it will negatively impact your essay, stop. I can guarantee you'll have your essays done on time if you work for an hour a day.

Here's a secret: nobody is motivated. I just started running. And you know, once I'm out there, I love it. But in the morning, it's a pain in the *** I never want to go through. Hauling myself out of bed early in the morning when all I want to do is sleep, to go run in the cold and get sweaty. Sounds great, doesn't it? On top of that, I'm taking Prevacid (an antacid) and I have to wake up 45 minutes earlier than normal so I can wait half an hour, just to have some toast. I literally fall out of bed and go take a quick, cold shower. Once I'm out there it's great, but getting out there just plain sucks.

'motivated' students have just figured out the best, most efficient way to study. That's unique to each person and something you'll have to figure out on your own, but when you discover your learning style, everything becomes easier.

Personally, I like crossing things off a list. It makes me feel like I've done something, and it also makes it easy to see what I have to do. You can get a small whiteboard at Staples and stick it on your wall by your desk. Each day write what you have to do. For example:

    1 hour essay

    1 page math

    1 chapter science

    1 chapter history

    1 lesson Spanish

Or whatever you have. When you've finished something, don't just cross it off. Mark it done however you want to. If I liked something, I put a checkmark. If I hated it, I scribble over it and vent some of my frustration.

If you really have to, get an egg timer and set your daily schedule by the hour. Do your schoolwork within an hour of waking up; you'll be fresher and then you have the whole day. An hour is plenty of time to shower and have breakfast. It's hard at first and your family might take some time to adjust to your new schedule, but pretty soon you'll be cruising through your work and won't have to deal with deadlines anymore.

When it comes to any kind of writing, remember that something is better than nothing. Once you start writing, it gets easier. Even if you think you're doing a bad job, or you just don't want to do it, get it out on the page.

Here's something people don't often realize when they're trying to get motivated to do something: Once you do your schoolwork, you never have to do it ever again. You won't have to write these essays twice. Get it done and forget about it.

Eventually you can relax your schedule more, but you need to get in the habit now.

  12. Set goals or yourself and make a timeline of when you need to have the groups of paragraphs done. Give yourself something to look forward to, such as a visit online, going outside, or a cup of lemonade. Don't try to stress yourself out by writing a full essay every day, take it in moderation. Also, please do not use bad words in your question that have to be starred out.

    Good Luck on your essays!

  13. Feel the feelings and do the essays anyway!

Sounds kind of funny, but it's the same thing as feel the fear and do it anyway. What happens is that by deciding to do the thing, you kind of let go of the feelings and they no longer bother you to the same extent. If the feelings keep getting in the way, just allow them through and let them go. Then get your focus back onto what you need to do.

You don't have to have a feeling of wanting to do these essays. Just do them. Sit down now and write out a plan of action, including deadlines for each of the essays. Then set up a daily plan: 1 hour of work on the first essay, then take a 5-10-minute break; do another hour on the essay, then a break. Always set a timer--then there's never losing track of time. After 3 hours of work, take a nice long break.

  14. Noel,

Also for yourtwo weeks off say that one day you will do one essay.
