Ok, so last night i caught my older brother (16) chugging down our cough medicine last night! He drank like half-3/4 of the bottle! Im really afraid that he might be abusing the meds. He wasnt even sick and he is taking cough meds a lot. My parents havent noticed yet and i dont know if i should tell them because my bro would kill me!!!!!!!! Can chugging that much hurt you? Do you think that he is sick and just taking meds without telling us? Can you even get high off of drinking that much or is he just sick?

  1. hmm...that's kinda tough....you should try consulting his doctor if he is prescribing your bro to drink that much med....on the other hand...if he isn't sick...he shouldn't be taking those meds...he could get drug overdose...it's bad...if you're really concerned about your bro, tell your parents about it....or maybe...just try asking him why is he taking that much meds even if he isn't sick...okay?  I hope this might help...and I also hope that your problem will be solved...=]

  2. if It night quill then he is using it to get drunk cause it contains alcohol. I do it some times. but then I get sick like coughing and snazzy sick from contamination. not a good idea but yeah tell your parents. so yeah he is just trying to drunk. I mean he might be sick but 3/4 the bottle is a lot so my first guess might be correct.

  3. The fact is that most cough syrups have some alcohol in them. This is an addiction and he will likely rebel, but does need help and you have to tell your parents. His mental and physical state is in danger because he cannot think rationally in this state and if he is driving...can be a danger to himself and others.

Speak to your parents and let them help him before you have bigger regrets that if telling is okay...like if I had told, would he still be alive!

    Best of luck to you...

  4. Tell your parents! He could get seriously hurt! If you tell them he will thank you later!

  5. let him do it, then he'll learn when he's really sick, and puking up his intestines

  6. This is bad he could overdose you either need to confront him about it or tell your parents. Yes many medicines have alcohol in them so many people abuse them but also many people overdose from overuse and miss-use of medications. If u confront him let him know your worried and don't want him to hurt himself, go easy don't attack him.

  7. HES GETTING HIGH BWAHAHAHAHA! They took the stuff that makes you high out anyways. What a douche.... sorry..... tell your parents, and tell them not to say you told them....

  8. TELL YOUR PARENTS! he might get seriously hurt, and tell them to tell him that they saw it, and that he's glad you didnt see because you look up to him, and you might do the same, that way he will deffinitly not think you told them, and he will feel bad.

  9. i agree with rootbeer babe! You SHOULD tell ur parents!

  10. Okay, let me just say off the bat that this is a SERIOUS problem. Cough syrup or any type of medication in excess can lead to extensive health problems, serious injury or illness, and even death. If he chugged down over half of the bottle, then he is abusing the medication. First off, no one would chug medication and just guess the amount. He was probably trying to get buzzed off of the alcohol in the medication. You NEED to talk to someone immediately! Try speaking with your brother first. Make sure he understands that you are very concerned about it. If he brushes you off or denies the event, then you need to go straight to your parents. This is a serious problem that could end in tragedy if the right steps aren't taken. He may be angry if you go to your parents, but it's the only way to ensure that he gets taken care of and is shown that whatever the reason he is abusing the medication is a bad reason. DO NOT wait to catch him abusing the medication again, because by the time that instance rolls around, it may be too late. If you truly care about him, talk to him and if that fails, have faith in your parents. Your brother will thank you later.
