Ill be all over Italy for about 2 weeks. In Florence, Pisa/Cique Terra, Venice, Rome, Naples, and the Vatican City.

Have you been? what would you recommend is a 'not miss' type thing? Or something that the common travler might not know about?

  1. If you can go to Pompeii it's in the southern part of Italy but it's really cool

  2. I think you'll be covering pretty much everything you can pack into 2 weeks. Don't overstretch yourself - instead, spend lots of time in a small number of places and see those places thoroughly.

Traveling shouldn't be all about ticking off the places to see from a travel guide, so you can tell everyone at home where you've been. It should be about learning the culture and experiencing a place and getting the feel of that place.

You don't get that after staying 1 day in each city.

To explain what I mean, I could easily spend 2 weeks in Rome alone, and not go anywhere else.

  3. i'm from naples and i can suggest to go and visit absolutely pompei and ercolano (it will take a day to visit both).

then, if you don't like very much the city of naples (i don't like it at all, because it's crowded and dirty), you should go in amalfi and positano, in the costiera amalfitana. it takes about 1hour from naples, but it's the absolute paradise, especially on sunny days. it's someway like capri, but it like it better, definetely. otherwise you should go and visit the royal palace of caserta. it's compared to the royal palace of versailles. i've visited both, and i think that the one in caserta is the most beautiful. not only the rooms, but especially the garden is fantastic. with lots of fountains, tha fall, the italian garden, the english garden, the wood...you should really go there.

    have fun in italy!

  4. one thing u might want to do while in naples that many people dont know about is the the underground aqueducts. it is really fun to see where some italians stayed in ww2 becasue of bombing. another thing u have to see is the amalifi coast and capri! it is so much fun shopping in those little towns and seeing the views! they r both day trips from naples so if u have some time u should go there!

  5. My best advice is something so simple.

    "Stop and smell the roses"

    No, Seriously.

When I was in Rome, I was so tired, and was wearily following my gung-ho travel companions. As I trailed behind, I stopped looking at maps and started enjoying the scenery. And I noticed something so unique. There were a dozen roses just sitting on top of a trashcan, no owner around to be seen.  Now, in Rome, trashcans are not what they are here. They are pieces of art. I was so fascinated, that I stopped to take a picture, therefore annoying my companions, but it was worth it. That picture turned out great, and is my fondest memory if Italy. I never would have noticed if I hadn't stopped to look around.

So again, my advice is to- "Stop and smell the roses"

    Have fun!

  6. I was not impressed with Pisa. The only thing there is the building. What ruins it is all these vendors trying to sell you something. You park your car and they take you to the Pisa on a bus. The vendors are annoying you while your waiting to take the bus and when you get there. Go to Tuscany instead. Quaint towns and beautiful scenery.

You will love Venice, Florence and Rome. So much to do in Rome. I loved the people and the food.

One thing I noticed all over Italy was the devotion the Italians have for the Blessed Mother Mary (Jesus's mother). Little statues of Mary in cutouts in buildings, in front of small stores. I was very touched by this.

Have a wonderful time in Italy.

  7. If you can, take time to get off the "beaten path," and head into the countryside of Tuscany and/or Umbria.  Quaint little towns and villages, and some of the most beautiful scenery around. (I loved Sienna and Lucca).  You'll get the chance to feel more like a local and less like a tourist.
