  1. You have to remember that the people flying the plane are professionals and if something goes wrong (which I really doubt will happen) they have a plan set up to keep you as safe as possible. Bring something to do on the plane to keep your mind off your worries. something you really like to do (Sudoku, DS, Word Search). You will be there before you know it!!

  2. Hi,

Firstly, don't worry. You're going to enjoy yourself and the trip will be just fine. I started traveling alone when I was very young and since then have been on dozens of trips (including Europe several times) by myself.

It's great to travel and have new experiences and meet new people, but remember that you shouldn't really trust anyone. In the airports you'll generally be safe once you pass through the security area. All of the people within that area are people who are also traveling and so they are very unlikely to do something shady. However, in the public areas of the airport it can be very sketchy with a lot of pick pockets, etc. Keep your wits about you and be aware at all times of where your wallet, passport and other valuables are. It's best to keep your hand on your bag containing these items. Depending on where I am, I will sometimes wear the bag with the strap diagonally across my body, so it's attached. I also turn the bag to the front of my body and don't let it dangle onto my hip. This is a huge deterrant for pick pockets. Also, never let anyone watch your bags and never watch anyone else's items. It's best not to make conversation with anyone at the airport and safest just to concentrate on your own business. Get from point A to point B, keep to yourself. This may sound a bit dramatic byt I've used this several times and never had a problem with safety during all my travels.

You should be perfectly safe in Europe. Depending on where you're staying and if you speak the language, most areas are very accommodating to tourists and very tourist-friendly. Use the same philosophy as at the airports. Keep to yourself for the most part. Don't offer your personal information to anyone. You can be friendly if you feel comfortable, just be aware.

I've enjoyed many wonderful trips and I don't hesitate to travel alone. I hope these couple of tips are helpful to you and I hope you have a fabulous time!
