There must be a goverment site you could go to and find out about how it works, also maybe e-mail the seller ask questions like: has he sent one to the uk b4 and does he know of any other charges apart from his, also look at his feedback and maybe try to get in touch with some one who has bought a dress from him before and lives in the uk......   2. generally speaking, yes you would. the value is too small to attract duty, but definately vat at 17.5% of whole cost. that goods including shipping.

  3. It depends how the seller will declare the dress.

    If items are about above GBP 10 and declared as merchandise, they qualify for tax. On top of tax, Royal Mail will charge GBP 8 for the tax  as well!

    Items declared as gift are tax free up to about GPB 20-25.

    Of course properly the dress should be declared as merchandise, because it is merchandise.

    Even if this is not declared as gift, not necessarily it must be taxed.

    If you love the dress, you can take the chance, keeping in mind that you might have to pay more for it...
