Im looking at a ladder on b&q website that says "2.8m Double Extension Ladder (H)285.5cm"?

does this mean the total length is 2.8metres or that each of the extensions are 2.8 metres and the total length is 5.6metres?

like some others I think it is two units of 2.8m but it wont extend to 5.6m you have to have some overlap in the middle for stability - more like 5m extended pretty much like the old 16ft ext ladder.

I would say that you have answered your own question i.e. each section 2.8m long,total length when extended 5.6m. It can't be a total extended length of 2.8m. If it is then you'd be better of with a stepladder!

i would think that it was 2.8 meters per section. that would be an awful small extension ladder. Ive never seen an extension ladder that short. also figure that even though each section is 2,8 meters you don't double that for the over all length. some of the length is lost in overlap where the section come together. figure its total extended working length to be 5 meters. that is a fairly short extension ladder. don't pay to much and make sure that it hasn't had any damage to the rails as that severely weakens it.

I am guessing they are advertising the full length of the ladder = 8 ft.

Certainly given that a metre equates to approx 44 inches (less than 4 ft) and not knowing at all the basic length of the ladder, and not knowing if they offer pictures, or any explanation, I think I'd probably question them first.

  In some general sense it sounds like a ladder that when unextended is more compact, then adds the double 2.8's as it is extended. I'd certainly also want to know the weight bearing rating of that,,, or any ladder. AS well as the bracketing/clamping/clip hardware that maintains safe extensions.
