Im looking for a certain type of radio reciever?

Gday, im looking for a reciever that can pick up my local Air traffic control at Canberra airport, i was just wondering which kind of reciever i would need for it, which one would be the best (opinion) and whether or not i could hook it up to a car and if i could do that; which im not holding out much hope for, who could install it for me...thankyou

  1. What you need is a handheld scanner that can pick up the aircraft AM band (108 - 137 Mhz AM):

    This one will receive the air band very well and is available in Australia.  You would not need it installed in your car, you just hold it in your hand.

A scanner receiver capable of covering from 108 - 136 mhz (Airband) is your best bet.Models by Bearcat and Radioshack (Realistic) are relatively cheap and reliable.A good antenna,mounted as high as possible will also help pull the stations in.There are various Magnetic mounts available for car use.Google "airband receivers"
