  1. What kind of car? I assume you got your Mongooses from a discount store if they're heavy since the real ones tend to be pretty light.

This answer is a bit long so bear with me...

Anyway, if you have a car that will require a trunk rack- straps hooked to the trunk for support, or a spare tire rack- like a jeep, it isn't the rack you should be worried about. Trunk lid hinges and spare tire holders really aren't very strong, so a load that exceeds 50 pounds should not be tried.

That being said, it's not so much the dead weight, it is the amount of force the bikes apply when going over a bump or something. Think about trying to push a nail into a piece of wood with a hammer instead of hitting it. The is called the moment of force and can be devastating to things like hinges (and nails).

So, trunk lids or spare tires will need a hitch/receiver mount or a roof mount (though I would be wary of roof units with that kind of weight).

If you have a van or hatchback, the strap on type may be used. For this I suggest a Saris Bones. The problem here is that the Bones is not very friendly to full suspension bikes which I suspect you have. The next best option is the Graber Ultimate.

The BEST option is to visit your local bike shop. Take the bikes (or at least a picture of them) and the car to which you'll be attaching the rack. They should be able to help you out.
