  1. Any chance you would be interested in an M1A (semi M14) or an AR-15? You already know the firearm.

Remington Rifle is a fantastic choice. First look at the Remington website and see if you like something there. Then we talk more.

  2. If you are looking just for the joy of shooting, a .243, .270, .30-06 or higher would be perfect for the fun of it. Most manufacturers make their rifles so they have the capability to have one or the other in the way of sights. For a paramilitary experience and for the historic benefit, see if you can find a Mauser kar98 surplus or replica (mint condition, not just any surplus rifle)

  3. i assume that since you a talking about the 700 that you're looking for a bolt action hunting rifle.  i have a remington 700 in a .243 that i used for deer hunting when i was younger and now i use is for a varmint gun and i absolutely love it.  my dad has had a .270 for over 25 years that he uses every year and several of other family members have them in various calibers and i have never heard anything but good things.  my most recent purchase was a Browning A-bolt 7mm WSM (winchester short mag) and its also a great gun that i would suggest to anyone.  the caliber is more based on what you will be using it for.  the .243 is accurate from long distance but doesn't have the stopping power that i needed.  i think a 7mm WSM or a 7mm STW are the most versatile calibers.  you can load a mid 100 grain bullet for light game and targets or you could well over 200.  my dad took his STW to Africa and killed kudu, gemsbok, and eland with no problem.
