  1. A good hdv camera is about as close as you'll get to true hd at a prosumer price.

HDMI output is important if you'd like to connect your camera directly to an hdtv to play unedited footage, or edited footage that you've recorded back onto tape from your camcorder.

If this isn't going to be a necessity, I wouldn't worry about it, though it's usually a feature included in high quality hdv camcorders.

  2. hdv is as true as you'll get in hd depending on your budget. me hvr-v1p can shoot 1920 x 1080 25p and does a great job of it. i've projected in HD on a large screen and it did a great job.

bottom line is that if you want true HD be prepared to spend thru the nose. you're looking at a start price of $20000 for a ery basic one and it can go as high as $250000 if you get all the accessories.

maybe you'd want to consider the 'red' cam which shoots 4K!

it too tho will be out of reach for most of us.

    hope it helps!
