  1. Since you have no idea yet what you want to do, I think it is way too early to be planning your Doctoral studies. A LOT of Freshmen don't really know what they want to do, and a lot of the ones who claim to know, well, they will change their minds and change their majors.

Since you are not particular about making a pile of money ($40,000 is a pretty modest ambition) I think you should take your time and give yourself a chance to see what appeals to you. As you take more courses you will get a better feel for the kind of work you would like to do. Once you choose a major, then the najor itself will define what studies you need to complete. Psychology is a good choice for someone undecided, but you don't need to commit to a Doctorate yet - after all, that is a huge commitment of time and money which may not be necessary.  Online doctorates are NOT a good plan... the field of clinical psychology is very competitive and you need the best credentials you can get in order to succeed. That would NOT be an online university, although, as you work through your degree it is pretty likely that you will be able to take some of the courses at your regular university through the online schedule of the university. That is a LOT different than taking an online degree.

Keep your options open, do the best job you can in your undergraduate studies so that you can get into the best grad school possible, and be optimistic. THings will work out fine.

    Good luck.

  2. Psychology would be a good choice for you then. You should know that the Psychology field is extremely competitive, even with a PhD. Colleges are producing more Psychology degrees than ever these days!
