I want to know can and if so when can my husband adopt my daughter without her biological father being involved he hates us and i have received threats from him but if I have to get his consent for the adoption he would say no just to stir things up. his name isn't on her birth certificate and she has my husbands last name, we have been married for 19 months we got married in Darwin NT and now live in the ACT the biological farther lives in Darwin he hasn't ever had anything to do with her or I since I was about 2 or 3 months pregnant with her. If you have any information or know of where I can get information it would be great thank you

  1. In the ACT you will need to contact the ACT Adoption and Information Service. Contact details are:

    ADOPTION INFORMATION SERVICE

    Family Services

    PO Box 1584

    TUGGERANONG ACT 2901

    Telephone number: (02) 6207 1080

    Fax number: (02) 6207 8888

    Location:

Level 1, Block B, Callam Offices, Easty Street,

    WODEN ACT 2606

I am sure that you will still need to get the biological father's consent, but Family Services will advise you on that.

Best of luck with everything and hope it all goes well for you and your daughter.

  2. You may try posting your question to the Yahoo Answers - Australia site.  You might receive better responses there.

    Good luck.

  3. Your ex would legally have to have his rights terminated before your hubby could adopt her, you need to seek legal advice, get an attorney, and possibly contact an adoption agency
