  4. Hi.   We have a Sony Cybershot and do use it for night shots (for fun) and close-ups (for our online business).   It takes great pictures in low lights at night as it has one of those infra-red sensors that lights up the subject before it takes the picture.    As far as pictures of the moon...  none of the small digital point and shoots has the lens power to get very detailed pictures of the moon...  but the Sony takes great sunrise and sunset pictures.   Regarding the close up shots...  we have to have a camera that will focus and get in very close.  My daughter sells name brand clothes online.  She must take pictures of the names on the labels, buttons and other details and you know how small these items can be.   The Cybershot focuses perfectly with no distortion in colors or details.    I used to take pictures of insects - as small as ants and spiders.  I used a Sony Mavica then,  but again the image quality was nice enough for me to receive a few photo awards from my camera club.   I do trust and recommend Sony for those creative shots.   Also easy to use and reasonably inexpensive.     If you are thinking more professional results,   you will have to research the digital SLR variety of camera...  Like one of the Canon Rebels.   In this case,  it is not the camera that would be providing the results, but those long and powerful telephoto zoom lenses that can get beautiful pictures of the night sky and the moon.   You can also buy the Macro lenses which are designed to focus down upon insects, flowers, grains of sand...  tiny things.   Of course,  a set like this is expensive but do many things the lesser priced point and shoots can not.   Hope I  was able to provide a little insight.  Thanks for reading.

  5. Most basic cameras can take good close up and sky pictures.

A 8 or 10 megapixel would probably do the trick just fine. Canon/Nikon they run around 250$ or so.

Check them out on amazon.com, ebay.com, overstock.com etc

If you have any questions, just yell :)

I have this camera - it's a Panasonic Lumix.  I've taken pictures of the moon and they've turned out beautifully. I would suggest investing in a tri-pod for these pics.  I used it without one and it still turned out great!

The zoom is fantastic for this type of camera.  This Best buy ad is a little high priced...I'm sure if you checked around you could find it a little lower!)
