Im looking to fly into either campeche or chetumal to see the mayan ruins which is better to get to becan?

Im looking to stay in either area to get to Becan to see the ruins, and do i need to rent a car or do they have busses, i been on the internet all day and found most of my questions but these i cant find unless someone has been there, and if i rent a car do i need more than a passport? i want to stay someplace that english is ok and know a lil spanish to get by. please help me out thanks...

I have been to Becan,Chetumal and Campeche.You would probably need to find a flight from Mexico City.Only Chetumal has an International airport.You could easily find connecting service from Mexico City to both cities or you could fly to Belize instead of Mexico City and cross the border by bus into Chetumal.

You can get to Becan by car or by bus.I think you may also need to show some form of driving license from your home country to rent a car.Buses are a little more inconvenient but much less expensive than renting a car.

Probably a little more English would be spoken and understood in Chetumal because of it's proximity to Belize,an English speaking country but I'm sure you will be comfortable in either city.

The better way to get there is flying to mexico city and get another flight to chetumal and get a room there. Then you can rent a car, with your passport and drivers licence and move wherever you want. You can make a lot of small trips during the day and coming back at night to chetumal to spend the night there. I also recomend visiting Chicanna (which is located right in front of Becan) and another Mayan ruins closer to Chetumal like Kohunlich and Oxtankah.

At the hotels in Chetumal they speak english, so you wont have any problem. Actually, if you have enough budget and want to have in an ecotouristic experience you can stay at the Resort Explorean which is located in Kohunlich (www.theexplorean.com) and they can organize a lot different ecotouristic and archeologic activities for you.
