I have decided I want to spend about £1000 in total and that's about it I only want something like a 125cc and don't want anything too quick I was thinking should I buy new or used and what should I look for? Also legally what do I need to do to be legal on the road and what tests do I need to take, I understand I can only have my 125cc for 2 years can someone please explain this?

  1. You should start off with a second hand motorcycle.

Assuming your in the uk, all the info you need is in this link.

    Good luck.

  2. There should be a forum for just the question, its asked everyday, over and over.....

  3. hi for £1ooo your not going to get a new bike so it looks like a used 1

also  dont forget you need to insure it thats extra £

    also tax & mot.

legal requirements to be on the road =

    1  licence ( provisional )

2 cbt/dl196 ..compulsary basic training ( this validates your licence )

    3 insurance

    4 mot

    5  L plates  (front and rear )

    6 tax

    7 a road worthy bike

    8 helmet

    9 eye test requirement.

your cbt certificate or DL 196 is valid for 2 years from date of issue if you have not passed your full motorcycle test  before the DL 196 YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE ANOTHER  C.B.T conpulsary basic training.

you can take your test on a 125 cc bike but you will be ristricted to 33 b.h.p for two years after that  you can ride any bike cc

if you are 21 tou can do a DAS course on a 400 cc bike( which you train on prior / lessons etc ) if you pass your test from the date of your pass you then can ride any cc  motorcycle

EITHER WAY THAT YOU DO IT YOU NEED A C.B.T CERTIFICATE  as the test centre will ask you to produce it before your test takes place also you need to pas yout theory test

  5. Start by getting a car licence and a few uears driving experience - your 'road-sense', you don't want to learn about dangerous situations on a motorcycle!

  6. Prepare by taking a motor cycle training course. 125 will be big enough as a start.
