Its confusing to me i can hit my hybrid 240-250 yet only max out my driver 270? I used to hit it 310 yards but not any more

i believe my swing speed has dropped a bit but not that much.

My 5 iron goes 200 yards at a times so the spped is there.

Should I go to a 7 deg driver maybe?

  1. You just need to take your bag to an experienced clubfitter and have your driver checked out.

WIthout knowing what model driver, which shaft, which flex, etc., that all of your clubs are, there is no way to know what is going on with your distances.

Get serious about your game and go see someone who can analyze your equipment and swing and make the appropriate recommendations...Yahoo Answers is a great resource for general questions, but a personal solution will only be found by someone working with you personally.

    My $.02.

  2. Callaway Open Fit System will fix this problem. Using a small wrench like tool, the club fitter can mix and match shafts and cliub faces within a matter of seconds. It is the most inexpensive way to find the perfect driver for you. Did you know that 90% of all golfers do not lauch the ball at the optimal lauch angle of 14 degrees? You may be over this, or under, and this can be caused by the shaft you have. You may have the wrong stiffness, torgue, length, and numerous otnher things. Also did you know that the average PGA Tour driver is 43 inches, and a standard Nike Driver is 46 inches, Ping is 45, and Cobra is 45.5? you may simply be able to generate more ball speed with a shorter shaft. Another reason may be the MOI of your driver. The newest drivers. for example the Taylormade R7 CBG Max have an MOI that exceeds 5800, while the Nike Sasquatch Tour only has an MOI of 4950. This could also change the distance of your driver.

So to sum it all up, go to your local Callaway golf fitter and try this open fit system. i did and i get the perfect driver for myself and have been hitting it farther and hitting more fairways than ever before.

  3. no you shouldnt go to 7 degrees. only pros do that. that means there isnt any spin keeping your driver in the air. you have a low combo of launch angle and spin rate which cause less carry. go hit on a launch monitor to see what drivers can help you with that. remember its not how far you hit it once its how straight and consistant you are.

  4. I think at 270 your just fine. But if you hit your hybrid 250 you are losing distance some where. Try to loosen your grip and lengthen your takeaway. Unless your a single digit handicap, and if you were, you wouldn't ask questions here, a seven degree driver will be near impossible to hit straight.

I would have a pro check out your driver swing to see if he can find a weak spot in your approach. Otherwise take out that hybrid and love all the courses from 250 down the middle.

I do have to ask though, do you hit your hybrid 240-250every time, or only on the best shots? I ask because 85% of all shots taken by amatuers are not pure. So if you are even a quarter of an inch in any direction on the face of the driver, you could easily lose forty yards.

It is possible for the shaft to weaken at the kickpoint, or the crown of the driver to crack, which can cause a 20% loss in distance easy, if not more.

Keep practicing and check at the driving range how your flight is.

You may try to have someone else hit your driver as well. Maybe they can feel something you cant, or maybe you'll see something you didn't while it was you swinging.

Good luck, hitem straight, and sink some putts.
