Im looking to rent books but some of them are different years than sold at my school store

would it matter if the publish date of some of my college books are a year behind? i was thinking of renting my books from cheggs.com due to money problems but some of them are the same edition just a year behind..does it matter?

  1. It would depend. The best thing to do would be to check with your professor for the particular classes that you want to rent books for. A lot of the times you don't even need all the books; there are books that are required texts and some that are recommended. I dont usually go for the recommended text, I dont have enough time to read anymore than assigned!


  2. Usually it won't matter at all. I always had old books in college because it was so much cheaper. By the junior and senior year, I stopped buying textbooks completely because 1. I borrowed them from older students or 2. I borrowed them from the school library.

    Borrowing them from a school library turned out to be fantastic. Since new editions come out every year, typically only the newest edition was put on reserve. I would check out the newest old edition I could find and constantly renew them.

    The only problem comes when there are problem sets to do. Sometimes, problem sets will be different from year to year. So, I would go to the library, check out the current edition that's on reserve, photocopy the problems for the problem set, and voila! I can still do my homework. :P
