    Peak District,

    Ribble valley,

    Yorkshire Dales,

    Northumberland,

    Dorset,

    South Downs,

    Devon,

    The Pennines,

    Strafford upon Avon,

  3. oh dear, what a lot of miserable answers you've got so far !! ... don't worry, you will have a great time ... sometimes I think we Brits just love to moan ... OK so the weather can be a bit miserable at times when it's raining, but it certainly doesn't rain ALL the time, and our weather is generally temperate (not too hot, not too cold, and wet enough to keep the grass green) ... you are not stationed in an area of high crime so I wouldn't worry about that

it's funny you should ask this question today because I was watching a TV programme this morning and part of it was about Lakenheath air base and they were talking to some of the American personnel there ... I think some of them found England a bit strange at times because of the differences in language and culture, but all of them said they were really enjoying their posting ... in fact I gather England is one of the most desirable postings in your air force

I just hope you do explore away from your base when you get the opportunity ... the locals are friendly (when they're not moaning about the weather hahaha, it's one of our national passtimes)

  4. Depends where you are.  We're generally a friendly lot, but our country is in a state with drug addicts.  Hold on to your purse!

  5. expensive !

i dont know where you are from so i dont not know if you will feel a drastic change, but if you have been keeping up with the news over here you would know that prices are going up ! in fuel and food especialy.

i would make good use of public transport. and when you say RAF do you mean the royal air force ? and do you mean you are inlisting ?

  6. Terrible!

This place is a dump and i'm not exaggerating.

Lower your expectations before you get here to avoid a major disappointment.

  7. My brother-in-law was at RAF Wyton which is not far from Alconbury. It's an unremarkable part of the world.

I'm sure you'll get some sort of 'orientation' when you get here.

People are just your usual folks, mostly, holding down a job, trying to pay the mortgage on the house and raise a family.

Food's more expensive and you get smaller portions when you eat out.

Best to have two in a car when you first go driving, because we drive on 'the wrong side of the road'. I did that for my brother-in-law after he had been in Germany for a long time.

Cost of petrol(gas) is currently $10 per gallon approx.

We British are the masters of the understatement.

    We have 'weather' not climate.

  8. Depending on where u live in the UK life could ne nice!!!

I live in Manchester which is not too great and the weather is bad also haha !!!
