  1. If your family is coming on a permanent resident visa, you will qualify for free public education. There are no tuition fees in Australian state primary and high schools, though your parents will still need to pay for your uniforms and excursions. There is usually also some type of general purpose fee, but it's only $100 or so per year. In some courses, there may also be a materials charge.

Private primary and secondary schooling is subsidised, but high fees are still payable.

Tertiary education is heavily subsidised, but fees are still payable. All tertiary students are eligible for interest free student loans called HECS - HELP which are repaid via installments through the taxation system when your earnings reach a certain level.

If your family is on a temporary visa, your parents will have to pay for all of your schooling.

  2. If your parents are on the 457 Temporary Long Stay visa, they would only have to pay for schools fees if you are in NSW or ACT.  (and that can be expensive)

All other States allow free Education on this particular Temporary Visa.

A Permanent Visa allows the normal "almost' free State Education, as if you were Australians.
