  1. I KNOW! i live in south fl and i'm starting 10th grade at a completely diff school. well if the storm hits at least school will be postponed like a week or something. and it should only go up to a category 1 hurricane which is the lowest kind. it will just be like a long *** thunder storm at that level. absolutely nothing to worry about, trust me :)

  2. there's really not that much to worry about. if you live in a house or a brick

home or a block house, you should be just fine. if a tornado touches down

just get into the closet, if you have a basement go there. or get in behind the couch, not under the bed. the couch should protect you from falling debris(debree).

  3. A tropical storm is something to be aware of because a) it may strenghten, as this one almost certainly will and b) you don't want to be caught outside or in the gulf when it comes close.

Actually, if you are a strong swimmer and have a parent or two that will watch out for you, you can have a ball body surfing before the rain and lightning show up.  Usually you have two good days of surfing out ahead of the storm.....

Anyway, if you prepare for a tropical storm or even a catagory 1 or 2 hurricane you will have no problems at all, usually they will not even mess up an afternoon.  What happens? the sky darkens, the wind howls, debris flies around, streets flood, sometimes there is a lot of thunder and lightning.  Usually nothing more than an interesting day.  You will remember the first couple of storms, after that, if you learn not to do anything foolish, you won't remember most of them.

Interestingly, the storms that slow down and linger just off the coast are the worst you will experience on the gulf coast. the faster moving ones tear themselves apart. the stationary ones will seriously erode the beaches.

Wherever you are, take a deep breath, and don't let the tv stations get you too excited.  pay attention but don't worry about it.  after you live through a few hurriccanes, you will know what to do and when.

there is very, very, very liitle chance you can be hurt or even hampered by anything less than a catagory 3 hurricane.   you need to know where to evacuate to if there is a storm surge, an unusual occurance.  Storm surges  at high tide  cause flooding. But if you are at an elevation of just 20 feet above the usual high tides, it won't flood.

Now, if you have a catagory 4 or 5 hurricane comming, you need to understand that there are precautions you should take.  There is plenty of information on preparations.  Remember, almost no one is hurt by the weather in Florida, but you do have to respect it and not do somethng foolish.

the real problem is not the storms and hurricanes.  the real problem in Florida as everywhere is a twister or cyclone spawned by the stroms.  they are very destructive.  so destructive that there is very little you can do to avoid harm.   the best place to be is in a strong house.  but if a twister comes down your street the place looks like a war took place.  trees are snapped in half.  roofs are torn off, walls fall in.  cars and trucks fly.  the only good news is that they are so rare you won't ever see one unless you go looking. the rest of the bad news is that they appear so quickly that you rarely have time to react.  that is the primary reason you need to be aware and have a plan to get to safety.  you wait in safety until the chances of twisters have passsed.

  4. You can monitor TC Fay's progress and the forecasts here

    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics...

You will feel better if you stop fretting and do something to get prepared.

Water: 3 litres for each person for each day.

Food: Canned, packets, rice, anything that does not need refridgeration (power).

Something to cook with and on: Pots, and a gas cooker. BBQ even.

    Torch/flashlight and batteries.

    Radio and batteries.

    Have a plan for evacuation.

Have a plan to keep in touch with your immediate family - the ppl you live with. If you get separated, have a place to go to when/if you can.

Don't go sight-seeing. The hurricane will come to you - no, not really. If you must go out, tell someone where you are going and when you intend to be back.

Look out for your neghbours - Is that old lady next door OK? Does she have everything she needs. Maybe take her in for the duration.

  5. what the f*ck...did you just move here or something?

it's just a tropical storm! jesus christ lol.

i've been in category 4-5 hurricanes.

    you'll live.
