  1. GCSE's are the first set of qualifications sat by teens primarily in England and Wales when they are about 15/16.

In GCSE's instead of achieving the grades A, B, C etc

    - they call it 1, 2, 3, 4 etc

i.e. 1 is the best grade.

  2. that they've finished the test?

  3. GCSEs are taken by all 15 or 16 year old kids, there is one for each subject (but for English there are 2, and for science you can take up to 3).  You get graded by how you do on this, part of it is course work done throughout the year and part of it is made up with the final exam, you are then graded between U (unmarked) to A*.  Most kids leave with 8 or 9 GCSEs, and you can then go on to further education with them.

Pablo, you seem a little confused.  British schools do use the alphabetical grading, but some schools use the numbers on their term reports - that could be what you are thinking of?  Like, A1 would be an A for classwork, and a 1 for effort.

  4. GCSE 's are taken in your last year of high school when you are about 16/17.

In most schools you will do 10 but in others you may do some extra ones.

    The main ones are:

    English Literature and Language

    Mathematics

    Religious Education

    Science 1 & 2

others are opitional and you can choose between them.

You will lots of exams leading up to the GCSE'S. EG pre-mocks and mocks. . .

    Hope that helped!

  5. Gcse exams are taken in the UK equivalent of the sophomore year in high school around the age of 16.

A GCSE is a qualificant in one subject, so most people take exams in 9 or 10 subjects.

To take 2 or 3 would mean that i student isn't very capable or (if they are taking the exams a year early) it means they are very clever.

    Hope I helped.

  6. You can get a GCSE in English, GCSE in biology etc.

    So 2 or 3 GCSE's means 2 or 3 GCSE exams.

It is a certificate - General Certificate of Secondary Education.
