  1. Too bad about that "water girl" thing.  I was going to suggest that if you don't make the team, you offer to be the team manager (water girl to you).  This would give you an opportunity to fill in at practice when another person is needed, to play pick up games with the girls on the team before and after practice (and the coach will be watching these), to demonstrate that you have a solid team attitude and so on.  My daughter did this when she did not make her HS volleyball team and eventually she was put onto the JV team, played some, and finally got some playing time in varsity games.  The same thing happned to a kid who was trying out for my HS basketball team.

Try your best in the try-outs and if you don't quite make it, then consider swallowing your pride and make the offer.  Then one thing most coaches prize most in bench players (and really, if you are struggling to make the squad, realistically if you DO make it, you will be a bench player) is a good attitude and a willingness to accept their role cheerfully and energetically.  No coach wants a bench player who sulks about his/her role on the team.

If you won't do this, then all I can suggest is that you try your hardest and practice in your spare time and see what happens.

  2. Whenever you are in practice do everything the best you can... like when you are passing try to get every ball around you.

Also whenever you are running go as fast as you can, don't stop, and push yourself the whole way. (same with pushups, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, ect...)

During stretching make sure you stretch well, and push yourself as much as you can.

And, ask you coach and other players for pointers, and whenever you don't know how to do something ask someone.

Practice as much as you can at home. Buy a volleyball, and bump, set, and hit it against your house. You can also practice serving by trying to serve it over your house.

  3. show him that you love that sport

  4. i know excatly how you feel. i was the same way before my tryouts.

the best way to deal with that is to really listen to the coaches correction. coaches like it when you make eye contact when they are helping you.

also do excactly what they tell you to do and be very enthusastic.  even if your the best player, coaches cut you for additude. always cheer someone on and encourage them. coaches always look for people who encourage each other and don't knock them down for mistakes.

another thing to do is don't be walking into tryouts late. get there early and warm up with friends.  this will show the coaches you are ready on time and can't wait to start,  but more than anything just being out there and putting your heart into the game helps a lot.

and if you don't make the team? keep practicing and tryout for the next team. or take some camps and play on a club team.  this will improve you for the next tryout.  remember, michael jordan didn't make his freshman basketball team, and look at him now.

  5. Show a lot of team spirit, like cheer everyone on and give it all you got practice seving and all of the major skills like spiking and approach. Well i hope you make the team.

  6. to impress him/her and to show him that you want to be on the team you have to really listen to him, look him in the eyes when he talks and when he suggests some changes for you then really try to change and follow his advice. also do your very best and have fun. my coach said that if you're not having fun you shouldn't be on the court! coaches look for players who listen carefully. Good Luck!

  7. just so you know. because you think you already wouldn't make the team. since that is where your mind is you will actually keep your self from making it. and coachs can tell buy your confidence. besides it is not about how good you are it is about how could you can be. the whole perpose is to learn anyway.

  8. endurance.. half the girls on my jv team are so much worse than i am, but they are determined to learn (and win!!) so they made the team anyway. good luck!!
