I am really quiet and a lot of people get on my nerves. so why am I in graduate school for counseling psychology? I have only completed 1 semester, but what should I do? Should I get a law degree (JD)? should I focus on a different field in psychology that doesnt require talking to people? like forensic or criminal? thanks

  1. I definitely would not get a law degree if I were you -- it doesn't suit your personality.

Meet with a career counselor ASAP -- and do a full evaluation of personality and interests assessments.  This will help you uncover for which area of counseling you might be best suited.

Quiet people make EXCELLENT counselors -- because you will have that rare ability to make people feel that you are listening to them.  If you become a private counselor you will have no problem.  Maybe you're struggling with this degree or getting cold feet...?

  2. move to the wilderness and live in a cave and counsel the wildlife.are you as big a dummy as your question indicates?why choose a field that walking in the door has complications for you?i see this all the time, young person likes the surface of something and with no research or very little commits and then says oh sh-t!on the surface you must have some intelligence, after all you are pursuing higher education.that doesn't mean get high and educated.only you can answer what you should.that's you, not the general public.grow the eff up!if you stop looking for cop-out help you might figure life out. i doubt it,you seem more like what we as a nation are growing more and more of and that is SHEEP,FOLLOWERS.look to yourself, grow up and make a good decision. let me know where you become a counselor at so i stay the f-ck  away.

  3. Try seeing a career or grad school counselor to discuss the direction your education is going in. They may be able to point you towards some options that fit you better. Be prepared -- go in with a list of your concerns.

(DON'T BECOME A LAWYER. Both my parents are lawyers and they strongly discouraged me from entering the profession -- though it is lucrative and high-profile, there is a lot of negativity in it, and plus you have to deal with all kinds of difficult pepole.)
