i decided to get off my bum and do something with my life, I'm doing a one year access course to get into uni next year. i have no idea how i will pay for this tho, i live with my boyfriend and only have his income. Is there any help available under these circumstances. I intend to help with a part time job but its probably going to be minimum wage.

Any advice would be helpful

thanks

  1. Everyone gets the same loan from the government to pay their uni fees-they're paid directly to the university.

You don't pay them back until you are only over £15,000 and only 9% on anything over that. I.e. if you earn £16,000, you pay back 9% on the £1000 past the threshhold. And this depends on your income only, not on any one else's. After 25 years if you haven't paid it back it's written off.

Depending on your boyfriend's income, you may also be able to get a maintenance grant (I think).

    Check out http://www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk

That's the government website about what help you can get with student finance.

  2. You might get an adult learning grant or a bursary. You need to talk to the college about your options.

  3. Not from the local authority as its classed as further education not a higher education course. You could get EMA or ALG if you are over 19. Its £30 a week. Go to www.directgov.co.uk and search EMA or ALG or phone 08001218989 which is the adult learning grant helpline.

  4. If you live in the UK you should be eligible for a student loan.  They pay your tuition fees and give you a loan and grant to cover your living costs.  You need to go to your LEA (Local Education Authority), this should be at or near the town hall of the borough you live in.

You might not need a part time job depending on how much loan you get.

Find out where your LEA is, you can even find a number online and ring.

    Hope this helps.
