ok, i just bought an ipod touch and got a comprehensive 3 year warranty (accidental damage and such) from best buy. i would assume that jailbreaking it would mean that warranty would be void, however someone told me that i could just restore the ipod if i ever had to take it in for repair...but im just not sure.. is jailbreaking it legal? so many people do it, but i want to be safe. i definitely want to keep my warranty but i've seen jailbroken ipods and theres so much more to offer! what should i do? thanks

  1. I would wait a year or two, before jailbreaking, but dont wait all three years

    2.0 for free

    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

    just shift+click resstore in itunes then choose the firmware you downloaded

  2. Nah, don't do it. Just hand over $10 for the 2.0 software update.

  3. If you still have the firmware version 1.1.4 (bought the iPod before July 11th) and you want to install your own applications, you might as well jailbreak your iPod using a program called ZiPhone. (www.ziphone.org) There is no harm done to your warranty, as you can simply restore it back to normal with no harm done.

    If you have the new 2.0 firmware, you can already use the iTunes App Store to get your applications, with better iTunes integration.

  4. jailbroken ipod touches dont have more to offer now b/c of the new upgrade...its $10 and allows u to purchase apps from the itunes apps store...but, u can still upgrade, even if u do have the 2.0 upgrade...jailbreaking is pretty risky if u dont know what ur doing and something goes wrong, itunes may not recognize the ipod anymore (u cant restore it)...the warantee will be void if u jailbreak it so its really ur choice...im advice is not to do it

  5. You'll be fine. Restoring your ipod touch will fix everything if something does go wrong. My co-worker does it all the time and there's nothing wrong with his itouch.

    ::For all the comments above::

    I honestly don't think it's risky at all. It's simple and quick with the right software. If you have any questions on how to jailbreaking your touch, please just send me an email. I unlocked plenty of iphones and have jailbroken quite a few itouches with no problems before. But if you want to safe, you can always pay for the software.
