  1. Drape loads of sari styls fabric around the house and garden, download some good tunes or have a bw movies playing, make samosas and paint your feet, hands and do your make up real good, wear a sari or make one from satin fabric. check bollywood websites for some fun ideas for decorations etc: think cheesy glamour. Have fun

  2. get one of those pantomime trees and have the boys and girls chase each other around it

  3. What's a buget? Do you mean budget?

  4. Re. sari lengths, glitzy fabrics, etc., check out the charity shops! They might also have some pretty bowls.

Have you a nice take-away shop? Bhajis, pakoras & samosas are classics. Also, some supermarkets do big packs of them that just need heating up.

Dips are ok, too - get big pot of plain yoghurt, chop fresh mint into it and a diced cucumber, and put ito small dishes. Try a tub of hummus with garam masala, also served in small dishes - presentation is half the battle!

Serve Indian breads, ie. pittas and pakoras - look up recipes and make your own, it's not difficult! Poppadoms need to be deep-fried and served immediately, the instant sort are ok but have too many additives for my taste.

If guests ask about bringing bottles, lager is the classic, or fruit juice. Lhassi is easy to make, but check the recipe sites.

If using joss sticks, they're great out of doors cos they keep the flies away. Not indoors, perhaps, they might conflict with the food.

    And have a great party!

  5. Obviously anything Indian and I don't mean just curries.  I suggest you look at Indian cookbooks at your local library to get an idea.  I also advice you to skip the desserts/sweets section as they tend to be waaaay to sweet for British tastes, even though I love them.

Ethnic food stores usually food cheaper  and in bigger size packs than your supermarkets, and even snacks you could only find there.

  6. Invite some glamourous Indians?

  7. shoe polish

  8. You could tell everyone to dress up.....use a lot of patterned fabrics to decorate the room and for food you could make samosas and buy indian take out.........you could put on the walls posters of famous bollywood actors (just print them out) Sorry I have no more ideas

  9. If you have Asian girl-friends, ask them to help you out on this one.

Indian food...you don't have to splash out mega on the food either..as nibbles samosas, you can make the bhajias (or as they call it here bhaji) using different vegetable ingredients and not just onions, dipped in the spicy gram flour mix and deep fried include side dips like raita, or add a few drops of sweet/hot chili to a mayo....include bowls of savouries too such as Bombay mix, there are many many different varieties available in shops all over. You can also add a plate of varied chunks of raw veg and fruit which never goes amiss at any parties)...tandoori chicken is easy to make yourself with tandoori powder and yoghurt but I also add some home made spices to it which adds to the taste and flavour of the meat. There are many countless of Indian dishes that can be prepared or bought according to ones budget....so I leave that up to you.

For the colour scheme, try adding LOTS of vibrant colours...to give it that rich, glitzy and glamorous feel. Cushions for example scattered here and there, if you can get hold of it why not try draping silky, sequinned, colourful materials (like a sari) around. Dress is important too, ask your friends and the people you have invited to dress up too for the occasion, if your're a Londoner then there is a place in East London, a road just outside Upton Park tube Stn which sells EVERYTHING..food,clothes,costume jewellery....I mean EVERYTHING !!!

Music is a must too with all parties, we all like modern day Bollywood music, dressing up is just great for the girlies, you can buy henna cones tooo in all colours these days and decorate your hands (try googling up designs for some ideas)

Go ahead...Hope you all enjoy the event xxxx

  10. Depends what your budget is -   Tell them to dress up and use fabrics and cloth ( spare) around the house that you do not need.  Make patterns and shapes out of them.  Get some really voodoo-ish sort of bollywood- ish music and get some masks and snacks instead of a meal - but get quite big snacks like big brownies. cookies, fruit, nachos that will fill them up so that they will not want a full prepared meal which can cost a lot!

  11. Get an Indian caterer! Some good not-so-spicy foods are Tandoori Chicken, Naan bread, Chili Chicken and Palak Paneer (spinach and Indian cheese). Put up colorful fabrics around  your house and put glitzy sparkles everywhere! Get some Hindi music videos playing on your TVs and take away ALL chairs (replace with colorful pillows and tables). You can also get some Bollywood movie star cut outs. Dress up in an Indian sari or churidar and have fun!
