Im on the swim team now...?

And I want to know if it would help me loose a little weigh. Im not fat, but I have some belly fat, and I want to... not have it. So we do about 30-60 minutes of cardio before we get in the water, then like 2-3 hours in the water... I think. So do you think ill be able to lose my belly fat, and in around how much time? And yes, I do have a moderate diet plan, not eating too little or too much

And do you have any stretches that will prevent soreness after practice?

  1. You will loose a lot more than belly fat! I swam for 6 months on a swim team and lost like, 15 lbs! And I ate A LOT. Swimming is definitely the best form of exercise.

Your swim practice and 30-60 minutes of warm up cardio activity should be more than adequate to decrease your body fat.  With regard to your diet, the key is having a diet high in fruits and vegetables.  Avoid sugars and fat that comes from animals.  Fats (oils) that come from plants is fine.  Be certain to eat some meat or eggs for protein but, you don't need large amounts.

    Be aware that some fat is good for you.  

    Stretching is good for you.  Swimmers do leg and groin stretches.  They also do stretches that work the pec (chest) muscles and the lats (large flat "wing" on the back).  It would be very difficult to describe the stretches here.  Your coach should be able to help you with the stretches.

    If, however, your muscles are sore, they are sore from activity and not from lack of stretching.  Interestingly, research shows that the best way to get rid of soreness is to do the same activity, at a light level, that caused the soreness in the first place.  Research shows that and, as a coach and former swimmer, personal experience shows the same.

    Like you i was fat before I joined swimteam. Now I m regular, swimming helps you tone muscles and strenthen your core so dont worry the belly fat should be gone within a month or two
