Average cost for a Private Pilot's Certificate in the US right now is running about $6500 for flight time, instructor's fees, ground school, written and practical exams.

You must be 16 to solo in a powered aircraft (under your instructor's supervision) and 17 to obtain your license.

It takes a little while to get your pilots license and cost a little money. (Around $5000.00) but that should include all your supplies and instruction. You basically learn everything that meteorologist learns also. You can get your pilots license at 14 (with some limitations). It is a very good hobby to get into. (And won't it be cool to take your friends up in the air) I would go ahead and talk to your parents and let them know your interested in pursuing a private pilots license. Most local airports have a flight instructor there, that will be willing to give lessons, just look in the phone book. My husband to be has been flying for about 10 years and loves it.

Note, however, that cost does vary according to where you're taking lessons.  In some cases, it varies quite a bit.
