  1. I think that the answer is positive. Of course it will depend from witch University (UASD?) and what kind of degree.

But take some specialty course in the US is never bad.

  2. Something similar happened to me, I went to study Architecture in UNPHU and now I work at a big home builder in the US.  There are a few that are recognized here but you still have to go through a validation of Diploma in whatever organization you major in. Is simple more or less you come with a full report card semester by semester and you translate them so you can later forward it to the organization that rules your carrier (ex. Board of Medicine if you are doctor). Now depending on the major your interested in, here is a few that are worth mentioning:

There are many good universities to go to in the DR, I personally graduated as an Architect from one and now I work at big home builder in the U.S. If you have the chance to study over in DR you will be ready for anything in any part of the world, but you will need to choose one that specialize in your area of interest. I hope this helps:

UASD – Public University, this means is the cheapest therefore is more populated however this is one the best almost in all its majors. Excellent on Medicine, Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration.

UNPHU – Private University, some what affordable and recognized in all Europe and the United States if you want to validate your diploma. Very good on Architecture, Medicine, Interior Designs, Engineering and Law school.

INTEC – Recently change from a technological institute to an University for its immense growth. This one is excellent if you are looking to finish a carrier in less time because its program doesn’t give you much vacations, it’s on going all year long. Is somewhat expensive but the quality of professionalism is worth it. Excellence in Literature, all types of Engineering, and Medicine.

PUCMM – This is a private, well establish university. They are good on Public Relations, Marketing, Literature and Architecture

Other to consider are Universidad del Caribe, APEC and UNIBE

  3. Not all of your credits would automatically transfer to a US university.  YOu aren't worried about that so you must be thinking about jobhunting.   I own a business.  I don't even care if someone has completed college.  I always think of Bill Gates.   Did Warren Buffet attend a prestige university?  No.

  4. First of all, you will find that ANY degree you receive OUTSIDE THE U.S. has almost NO meaning to an employer IN the U.S... It's a real shocker to find out that your Master's Degree from a foreign country means NOTHING to an AmeriKan employer... who probably can't even find the country of issue on a map.

With AmeriKans... it's all about THEM... and they marginalize and trivialize ANY academic Degree that didn't come from an Amerikan university... it's like they think that all foreign schools  are like the Papa Doc Douvalier Medical School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti...

I lived in Santo Domingo for a year (Ave. Independencia) and I know the school systems in the D.R. and from what I saw, they are all SUB STANDARD... I would NEVER hire someone who got a degree from a 'university' in the D.R. because they are just a slight cut above a 'university' in Haiti.

I had to deal with a lot of professionals who had graduated from the supposed "University" in Santo Domingo... and I have never seen so many people with a college education who knew so little... that was in the 1980's but I seriously doubt they have raised their standards in the meantime.

Why are you going to a University in the D.R. when the Univ. of Puerto Rico in San Juan is world known for being a quality school... and it's just a short boat ride away from the D.R.?
