Im pretty sure that im getting a rat but have a few ?s

do rats shed hair like cats

how long do they live

what do you feed them

They do shed, obviously not as much as cats, much less hair...i have never found it to be a problem, they do have summer and winter coats so the most shedding is in spring.

They live on average 3years but can be longer or shorter.

You can buy 'ready mixed' rat food from pet shops (a mix of oats, nuts, cereals)

There's quite a few other things that are good to know. Like sawdust as a cage linging is a no no, it causes major problems for the rats breathing. Most pet shops don't know this, or won't tell you.

i have 6 rats.

rats do shed. but not too bad. i use cottenell and wipe them down at least twice a week to keep them clean.

life span depends. i had a rat that lived 5 years. some shorter. depends on their environment and diet.

i feed them a varity of things. i mix rat food (the nuts and oats one) with parit food (dried fruits, carrots etc) i give them human scraps such as hamburger, fresh fruits veggies, cat cans, some dog kibbles anything but the obvious no nos.

Rats are the smartest small animal you can get.  They can learn a call, potty trained, sometimes name and tricks.  i would get a rat book and read about it.

hi well rats are great pets but hey need heaps of space and big cages are expensive but rats are VERY effectionate so you'll have a good time getting to bond with them oh and rats are quite sociable so if you want one rat you'll have to get it a cagemate i hope this helps!

Im pretty sure that hamsters live a average of 2-4 years so i think that would be the same for Rats also..........

Go to any pet store and ask them what you should feed them..........

if you already have a few hamsters make sure that they dont fight......
