why isnt cheese cake a pie?

ive ALWAYS wondered that.

why do people call it cheese CAKE if it looks like a pie?

A real cheesecake is made in a springform pan, with very tall, straight sides and doesn't look anything like a pie.  You might be making the Jell-o mix, or no-bake quickie "cheesecake" pies, which don't taste anywhere near as good as a real cheesecake......  (sort of like comparing Hamburger Helper lasagna to a real lasagna)
