I'm starting high school in about a week and 1/2. I'm sooo incredibly nervous! I want to make friends and be outgoing, but not TOO outgoing that it annoys people, I want to get A's in all of my classes (including 3 honors classes), and I want to try out for drama/plays! I'm so stressed, and I know it's probably nothing, but I just need really good first day advice on how to make friends, do well in school and well... survive. Any advice will help! Thanks!

  1. alright, first things first: just relax. everyone makes friends. even if youre not outgoing. but thats good if you are. i took drama freshman year. at first it wasnt my thing, but it helped me to be a little more outgoing. i did well in high school and honors classes can be stressful, but you just need to remember to give yourself some credit. and if you dont do as well as you wanted, just give yourself a pat on the back for actually lasting as long as you did in there! the only thing i regret about high school is not being involved in everything. i really think thats what makes high school the best years of your life. so join the drama club, run for class president, get involved in sports. and when high school is all over, and you apply to colleges, you can put all of that down. they love that. have a great time in high school :)

  2. well, i think i may understand how u feel about the 'too outgoing' thing. hmm, its not an easy question to answer, but before you speak to someone, take a second to just close ur eyes, take a deep breath, and think to yourself that you are going to be 100% yourself, w/o being too shy or too outgoing. and if you feel that you are crossing the line w/being outgoing, check yourself and make yourself stop. u know what u should try? is there a friend or someone w/whom u are already good friends and u have no problem being yourself with? well, pretend that any new person/friend is that good friend, and think about how u would behave if it was THAT friend.

as for grades, i know its important to make good friends, but dont get so caught up in socializing that u slack off on school work. just taking everything step by step, take everything easy. dont stress out too much. i did that and it was not beneficial. a little bit is good, but put the rest of the effort into getting the work done. if you get even one grade that you are not happy with, immediately do something about it: talk to the teacher, get help afterschool or even do the work there, study extra. do something to be sure that you have it under control again. and about the plays try out thing, good luck. an organizer may be helpful in reminding you of what u have to do and time management stuff.

you will survive, dont worry. and dont sell yourself short; of COURSE it is something! this is your first time @ high school, and it is important. but remember, be yourself, be conscientous (did i spell that right?), and be proactive. if you feel something isnt right, then get help to fix it asap so that u dont worry about it later.

i hope you enjoy high school and best of luck!

  3. Don't be a *****, and don't let people get under your skin.

  4. highschool is alot of work and totally stressful, but it's also a super fun time of your life... don't worry about it... doesn't matter how outgoing you are or aren't... you'll make friends no matter what... advice?.. just go with the flow... things work out on their own without you having to try at all...

the bottom line is that if you show up everyday, you'll make good friends... if you show up everyday, you'll make good grades... if you show up everyday, you'll get the most out of your high school experience...

  5. Your right you are stressed over nothing, just smile and be yourself by lunch time you'll be good to go.

  6. I know what you're going through and the best way i know how to help you is by a list! [ List's are our best-est friends!]

    Ways to be Outgoing

    1. Smile. Don't do a creepy smile that would scare someone, but a friendly smile that makes people want to come and talk to you.

    2. Talk. Not in class of course, but whenever you see someone who looks like they could need a good chat talk to them.

    3. Make Lots of Friends. Just be interesting to people. You mentioned you wanted to be in dramas and plays well talk to your older peers that are in voled in such activities and then if you become really close then you have a guarantee that they will help you get into drama club and the good parts in plays.

    Ways to be Smart!

    1. Pay attention. Take all your notes and keep them in order. Try to be the Mega-Geek you know you've always wanted to be.

    2.  Correct your teachers. If you absolutely know that you're teacher wrote a word wrong, or got an equation wrong correct them! They'll think that you're they're best student and will shoe you in for things like being TA next year or writing you a great recommendation to college. Also if you correct your math teacher she/he/shim might just give you a higher score than what you really got. Do this too much however and you'll just seem annoying.

    Hope I've helped!
