Question

A simply supported one-way slab has an effective span of 7m and carries a uniformly distributed load of 6 kN/m2. Design a suitable slab and reinforcement to provide a fire resistance of 2 hours with mild exposure. Note Fcu=30 N/mm2, and Fy=460 M/mm2.

Thanks again for all who helps

  1. The slab it self is easy, the moment on the slabs

    M = 6x7x7/8 = WL^2/8 = 36.75 mkN

    find the depth from the given equation which in this case is around 15cm

    to cater for fire resistance increase the steel cover by 3cm at the bottom and 2cm at the top, that makes the slab thickness 20cm,

    the expected reinforcement is 6#10mm/meter each direction
