Im refinishing the wood trim pieces on my boat. i sanded the pieces then applied?

teak oil. the wood looks great but do i need to apply something over the oil like polyurathane or something or is just the oil ok? the pieces will be exposed to water. thanks

  1. Just oil the teak and sit back and enjoy the world of boating.


  2. The reason teak is used is due to it's strength and oil content.  There is no need to put anything else on it or be concerned about water exposure.

  3. We usually put a base coat of epoxy and varnish on top of that.

    We only do this for teak that isn't going to be walked on.

    I always seal wood if I can get away with it.

  4. All above are good answers. The sun is your biggest problem not the water. Is your boat stored covered and out of the elements. If its kept in the sun get used to wood maintenance consistently.
