  1. I had braces and then a retainer for a year then they said my teeth were fine and i didnt need to wear the retainer at night at all...then my teeth moved back and i need to get another retainer or maybe even braces again! So yes i would recommend you wear it the rest of your life at night! And no retainers dont hurt! There a little uncomfortable the first few days, but then you get used to it!

  2. You should!! It actually starts to feel good after awhile because your teeth feel even straighter in the morning. After you invested all that money in braces it only makes sense to wear the retainer because you can get you $$$$ worth out of the braces. Trust me you'll be FINE!!!@

    Hope this helps!!! :-p

  3. you should wear it for the rest of your life at night if you want your teeth to remain straight...it's not that big of a deal, and totally worth wearing it to preserve all the work that has been done by the braces... if you don't wear it, your teeth can move back and all the money and time with braces is useless...wear the retainer, it'll be ok.

  4. i just got my braces off and it didn't hurt at all.. and about the whole retainer thing ? they just tell you that to scare you, my ortho said that i only have to wear my retainer for three months then only at night.. plus if u acctualy wear it, it will get off faster. THEY DO NOT HURT AT ALL IT MAKES UR TEETH FEEL SMOOTH.. plus u can ask for the clear kind, then theres no wire. there's no reason to be scared of a piece of stupid plastic :]

  5. No the retainers don't hurt. My orthodontist made the mistake of telling me I only had to wear the retainers until I turned 21 and then didn't have to worry about them anymore. I'm 23 and my teeth are crooked again, so now i have to invest in either braces or preferably, Invisalign. My retainers don't fit anymore. Needless to say, I switched orthodontists because mine is obviously a quack. Make sure you wear that retainer!

  6. oh boy im so jealous of u i hate braces it rly depends on your mouth but most people wear it for 2 years only at nite and ome wear it for a year day and night and then the other year only at nite my frends had retainers and you certainly dont wear them the rest of your life lol good luck

  7. No it doesn't hurt at all. The first week, your teeth will probably feel a bit strange, but it's perfectly normal. Your teeth just needs to get use to the retainer.

No, you don't have to use it for the rest of your life, your teeth just needs to get use to the new places the brace has giving them. Therefore it's quite important that you - especially in the beginning of your "retainer periode" use it quite frequently, after some time you can ask your dentist when you can "cut down" on the use of the retainer, and then start to use it less and less.

I have had my retainer for over 2 years now. I still use it at nights, but not every night. Sometimes I go a week without it or more, but sometimes after too much time without it, I feel like my bite is slipping back to it's old place.

Another reason why it's important for you to use your retainer frequently is because you need the retainer to fit with your teeth (wow that's surprising!), and if you don't use it for some time, your teeth will be quite sore when you start using it again.

I have never used my retainer as much as a should. When I got mine at first, I should sleep with it and use it 2 houres a day. I have almost always only really sleept with it, and that has been okay with me, but I recomend that you do what your dentist tell you to do :)

If you have other questions, you ask me, and I will try to answer the best I can :)

Btw you shouldn't be scared at all! You should be looking forward to getting the braces off! t first your teeth might seem rather large, but you just need to get use to how they look without the braces, and for me that took about a couple of days.

  8. a retainer doesnt hurt at alll.

they put a permanet retainer on my bottom and top teeth.

    i cant even feel it.

then they just gave me a retainer.

    doesnt hurt at all

you have nothing to worry about..

  9. I just got mine off a few months ago and was told to wear the retainer 24 hrs a day for the 1st month then only at night for the next year. I have missed several days in a row now and your teeth will move  and that   is   no  fun. I know they will settle eventually but you want that to happen while they are still straight!!!!

Wear your retainer! this was a huge investment for me and I can't afford another 18 mo to 2 yrs mentally, monetarily or spiritually!

    Good luck

  10. I have brace, and I'm getting them off in 5 weeks. My mom told me you had to where them for the for like 30 years.

  11. i had braces for about 2 1/2 years. and like you, they told me i have to wear my retainer, and then after awhile, just at night.  I don't wear my retainer anymore.  but i do have a permenant retainer on my lower teeth. :-( I hope that this sort of helps ! Congrats on getting your braces off, i know it's a wonderful feeling!!
