I live right outside of Tampa in the Brandon/Valirco area in a townhome. I dont have a basement or anything like that. I have a half bath with no windows and a closet under the stairs which also has the hot water heater in it. Im freaking out because of tornadoes..I HATE those things. But, my husband is military so they said we cant leave yet, and I really want to?

What do you think?

  1. i would leave right away i hate tornadoes too i would hate to live in florida it is no good to live in

  2. Dont be affraid if anything...your husband being military you'll be extra safe.

Oh and check out www.onestophurricaneshop.net for all your hurricane needs.

  3. I Guess your new to the area, well first thing u should do is turn on the tv.................you will be kept well informed...in fact from what im hearing, its nothing,,,i am here2 3years...rode everyone but Flloyd out

Sucker didn't hit here i went to NJ. --i had to be helicopted by rooftop

from my sisters home in Bogota...Flloyd hit Jersey, ha ha not Florida

so these days i  ignore my family's begging to come back North

and ride it out...Look what happened the one time i listened, is that a riot or what...its a true story...seriously this is a big fat nothing

florida makes me laugh/....they just panic everyone...home depot gets

a bonus...and 24/7 we hear trumped up weather conditions...state of emergency...my f***y...publix and wallgreens will all profit by hiking the prices because those items are a necessity.. because the man in the talking box told you buy, buy, buy those supplies....Spare me

  4. You have like nothing to worry about. We've ridden out tons of storms worse than this with no problem. Especially in the Brandon area which is more inland. You have nothing to worry about. In most cases the hurricane tornadoes don't touch down and if they do they will for a very very very short time. If you're really worried about it just distract yourself. Watch TV. Talk to your husband. Nobody really has basements in Florida except big big buildings. Familiarize yourself with the tornado procedures if it'll help you and if you really want than go to one of the shelters. But trust me this storm is nothing.

  5. If you plan to evacuate then I would think the sooner the better. I hope you'll be okay.

  6. leave when you can

be safe! ill keep you in my prayers

    :)

  7. I live on the Texas Gulf Coast, so I'm extremely familiar with hurricane protocal, the preparedness, and the aftermath.

TS Fay is only a tropical storm right now.  That means that the winds are sustained at 60 mph.  It does look like it's headed for Tampa area, but really, it shouldn't be that bad.  You have to watch out for the storm surge.  I'm sure you've heard this term on the news a lot.  Do you know if your area is prone to flooding?  You should get everything valuable up off the floor (computer tower and other equipment, valuable furniture like antiques, electronics, etc.) and see if you can at least put them on top of desk, counters, tables, etc.  It's a little late for a disaster kit, but you should make sure that you have bottled water, at least one flashlight, some canned goods and other non-perishables (cereal, crackers, etc.).  Here is more information on that: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/pre...

Make sure that you secure all outside furniture and anything that can become airborne and smash a window.  Some people board up their windows, but I don't think it's necessary in just a tropical storm.  If it were a category 2 or higher hurricane, then it is a good idea to board up windows.  It really shouldn't be that bad.

Good luck and make smart decisions.  Try not to panic, it's not that strong of a storm.

  8. they said hurricane fay is NOTHING. They  right. its not even a hurricane, if it was a category 2 or up, then u should worry, so relax. its not even a category. good luck

  9. The best way to deal with fear is by gaining knowledge.  Go to http://www.USAMediaGuide.com and use their special section of links to get coverage of the storm from local news outlets.  In addition, you will want to check out the live webcams they have links to.   When you see how people in the Keys are reacting (they're basically going about life as normal) it will probably calm your nerves.

  10. go online to foxnews..they have complete coverage and place to go to for safety..the shelters in your area if you need to go to one..hurriance/weather links..got food in..plenty of water..gas in the car..use the computer to update yourself on the weather conditions..got family to call or contact them for assistance..make up a quick safety plan for yourself

  11. i am a floridian and have ridden these things out every year for the last 20 years...this bad girl is not even a cat 1. relax you will feel some rain, a heck of a great breeze, and the power will most likely go out for a bit..relax, enjoy the power of mother nature, and have some flashlights handy for the fun!
