  1. You have really answered your own question.

If you are asleep in you cabin and something did happen, highly unlikely, but if there was any incident that required the passengers to evacuate their cabins for whatever reason, you would be definitely awakened by the ships alarm system. There would be no chance of anyone sleeping through a full blown alarm. Its not only the ships siren, there are alarms in the cabin and the passageways.

Remember that before you sail, you are taken through the safety drill, and you know the way to your muster station and if you don't, the crew are there to guide you to the nearest safe passageway.

Cruise ships are so large to-day and getting larger, next year there will be a 220,000 ton cruise ship, that even in hurricane weather, not that they would ever sail close to a hurricane, there would be movement, probably a lot of movement, but not enough to come near to rolling over and sinking.

During the design stage, a scale model of the ship is subjected to rigorous tank testing until the limits of the design are found. These include incline tests which show how far the ship will go over and return to the upright until the point of no return. Finding the centre of gravity, the metacentric height and speed tests, in waves usually far above what the ship would be expected to normally encounter.

To be honest, there are cruise ships that have sailed through 70 foot waves and suffered a little damage, and were nowhere near sinking, but that was unusual. Normally no captain would be allowed to do anything like that which would make the passengers uncomforable never mind getting into a situation that would hazard a very expensive ship..

I hope you enjoy your cruise.

  2. It won't sink.

If you can't get past that, my suggestion would be not to cruise.

  3. Ships are very safe today with the modern equipment, radar, and stabilizers. They take safety serious and try everything possible to make it enjoyable. Talk to one of the ships officers and explain your concerns.Your probably not the only passenger who think this way.Try to exercise and do activities to keep you busy. Sometimes a Dr. sleeping prescrition might help before leaving. You want the trip to be fun so relax --have a little bubbly!

  4. Not even possible. they are very safe!
