Im seeing a star?

a really bright one all by itself outside.

that ive never seen. is it a star or a satellite or something...?

  1. its probably not a star... its most likely jupiter. jupiter is close this month, and next to the moon, its the brightest object in the sky. venus is still too close to the sun to be seen, and saturn and mars set fairly early, and are no where near as bright as jupiter right now.


  2. If it was a satellite it would be moving at a steady speed as where a star is stationary.

  3. The site below is quite user friendly and you can produce a star map.   If it was a moving object then you may be able to identify it, the International Space Station for example is now very bright.

    You need to enter the location and to know the date, time and work out its position in the sky. You can set  the star map for a previous date to identify the object if it is a "fixed" one.
