  1. I had a similar problem not long ago. My physed teacher made me do this drill..

    You will need:

    Tape

    Skipping Rope

    Determination

Make 4 squares on the floor right beside eachother (make a t with the tape)

1.Regular jump rope 50 times for warm up

2.While skipping, hop on 2 feet in each square, go from one to the other clockwise 25 times and counter clockwise 25 times.

    3. Same as above but on one foot - 25 times on each foot each directions.

    4. Regular skipping 25 times for cool down!

Its a tough workout but I'm 5 3 and i can slice it to the attack line! Oh yeah.. another thing that will strengthen your leg muscles is skating!

  2. haha im exactly 5'0 and im a hitter (also one of the best). i was originally the libero/defensive specialist but they got a different girl who is much better at that..and i have a beast serve so that kind of contributed =]. just make sure you have the right technique down to a science and practice that over and over again. then all youll need to do is just work on jumping..make sure your arms are stretched completely up because that play a huge part in your height when jumping. also work on your leg muscles. im a cheerleader too so that and volleyball put together allowed my leg muscles to get very very toned. and of course, make sure your coach knows you really want to hit! heck, your dieing over here of great desire to become a hitter while your coach might now even know!! =D

  3. dont worry im 5' 2" as well and im a middle hitter. You should ask your coach to let you try. Try hittings varsity two's there easier to hit and it doesn't matte how tall you are because the only thing that matters is the speed

  4. definitely look online for some jumping drills you can do.  also learn the technique and practice it over and over.  i might help to buy a cheap volleyball net and set it up in your yard.  have someone toss to you and hit even the bad tosses.  it will prepare you for real game play.  i should know...i'm 5 3 and one of my team's best hitters!

  5. You can work on your standing high jump by jumping 1, 2, and 3 stairs together and try jumping the bleachers. The biggest help will be to practice approaches and block transition. But, honestly, unless you are hoping to grow some more...it is highly unlikely that you are going to be an effective hitter at 5'2". Part of that position is the transition to defense. You are probably a great canidate for the libero position but you are not going to be able to effectively block in the way that a much taller player would.

Concentrate on setting- they are the captains of the court and dictate the speed and tempo of the match!

  6. just work on building your leg muscles and your agility. Try running and lifting weights it really helps a lot. I did the same thing you did and i worked out for the whole summer and know i am the starting outside hitter for my high school and i am only a sophomore.

  7. doesnt matter what your height is! i'm barely 5'0 and i'm probably one of the better hitters on my team because of my vertical. i would work on your calve muscles a lot. running, biking, etc any types of exercises that work your legs.

another thing i would do to make your vertical higher is, stand next to a wall and try jumping to a spot high above your arm when it's stretched upward. try jumping and reaching that spot every day. eventually you will jump higher and you might even grow a few inches in you're lucky. :]

  8. Skip hitting and stick to setting, and when a not so perfect pass comes your way hit it that way your coach will see that you can hit and you will get to keep your great position.  Setters almost always play all around, but hitters, not so much

  9. I'm only 5'3" and i'm a hitter all you have to do is practice on ur vertical.

  10. it doesnt really matter how tall you are

the shortest person on my team was the best in our frigen school!!

  11. you dont have to be nessecarly tall........But if you can Jump above the net and get a kill........you can be 4'5 and still do fine..(Maybe an exageration) Jumping drills or if where you live they have EXPLOSIVE EDGE than take that...........It helped me!!

  12. do some jumping drills, exercise your leg muscles. work on improving your vertical, the higher your vertical the better your jump.  work on downballing, try hitting against a wall. umm... like i said practice exercise and you should be good, Good luck!

    I'm an outside hitter

  13. Build your calves. They can help the shortest people jump the highest, but don't forget to work those arms with them.

  14. just work on building your leg muscles to get a better vertical.

  15. so???? tell ur coach u wanna try to be hitter!!!! im 5ft 0", and im a setter also, and i told my coach that i wanna try to be hitter, and she let me try doing that in a game, and now i am i fill-in hitter!!!!
