  1. I agree with the answers that say sharks and whales generally want nothing to do with divers.  Here's a specific example:  diving in the Sea of Cortez, there are places one can see groups of Hammerhead sharks.  Hammerheads are known to be somewhat unpredictable.  However, divers must use closed-circuit rebreathers to actually see these sharks because the bubble noise from a standard open-circuit regulator will frighten them away.

I've seen sharks only a few times in the wild.  In every case, they either ignored me or were actively trying to get away.

Divers seeing whales is a pretty rare and exciting event; something many divers really look forward to.  Again, whales are not at all interested in divers.

  2. sharks and whales want nothing to do with divers, and your chances of ever actually seeing one up close and personal while diving are pretty slim, unless they are horn, angel, or maybe leopards.

  3. Natural fears subside with more time in the water. Try to do alot of snorkeling with a mask & fins & snorkel to build up your swim endurance. You might put on a few light weights on a divers weight belt and a scuba divers vest(buoyancy compensator and just snorkel around to build your confidence and endurance. The endurance part with the weights and fins is good for swim team anyway.

Meet up sometime for snorkeling or diving. Let me know Ray

  4. don't let fear stop you accept it an learn bout them sharks only attack if you do something sudden or have something shinny. don't worry bout whales unless you tried shooting them

i was on the swim team to an set a world record for a 15 yr old

just never dive alone and nothing will happen

your more likely to die by lightning then get attacked by a shark
