  1. High school is tough for a lot of young people because of having to learn both the coursework and a whole new set of social skills.  The coursework is the easy part.  Set aside time to study and ask questions when you don't understand.  As for the social part, just be yourself and don't sacrifice who you are just to be in the popular group.

  2. OMG!!! Me too!  I will be a freshman on August 25th. Man, I heard high school sucks. I'm really nervous too. Four years isnt enough time for me to impress colleges with my transcript.

  3. As a recent high school graduate i speak from experience.

    Social:

First and foremost make friends with the opposite s*x. Number one, it shows you are self-confident, which is REEEAAALLLY important and number two, everyone of the same s*x will want to be your friend because you have the link.

Then, dont forget that what happens in high school, doesnt matter for a full day, so if something embarrassing happens, its only a matter of time before everyone forgets and moves on to the next thing. Therefore, you have nothing to sweat. Dont be worried about what people think because theyre all just as self conscious and nervous as you.

    Academic:

KISS YOUR TEACHERS ASSES!!!!! If your teachers like you, life will be unquantifiably easier. Contribute to class, search for outside knowledge and current events to bring to class.  If you show up every day to every class with a question prepared for that teacher, they will love you. Sometimes it'll be hard because teachers tend not to be nice, but trust me, do what you have to.  Not the typical, you look nice, let me bring you an apple, complimentary kissing ***, but the "I'm intelligent and ready to absorb the knowledge that you are about to share" kissing ***.

Also, dont worry about grades your freshmen year.  Work hard, get the highest GPA you can get, but dont sacrifice relationships for academics. Not this year at least.  Then as you go through your 4 years, try and improve your GPA every year. Colleges like to see consistent improvement.

Finally, JUNIOR YEAR IS h**l. Im going to give you two years of heads up. Junior year will not be fun, but always look toward senior year because that year my friend, will be one of the greatest years of your life.

    Extracurricular:

Start a club. Find something you are passionate about that doesnt already have a club and start working NOW to get the club established.  Start a real club about, political awareness, or environmentalism, or literature, philosophy, classic movies, WHATEVER you want!!  Colleges love to see you take initiative and start something that lasts beyond your 4 year legacy.

Other than that, have fun! You mature a LOT in high school and learn a lot about people, how to interact with them, and more importantly you learn about yourself.  Exactly who you are, under pressure, in the good times, in the bad times, with friends, with enemies. Dont be the person people want you to be, seek out the people who truely care about you for who you are.

    P.S.

A final word of advise, dont post pictures of you drinking on Facebook or Myspace, big trouble can insue.

  4. all you can do is be yourself. then you cant go wrong.dont worry everyone has the same worries as you some show it more than others.good luck.
