  1. Be optimistic and have a good attitude! Even if you mess up on a serve, a bump, a set or a spike, never give up and keep trying until you get at it.

Plus, in order to increase your skills, definitely practice at home on spiking, bumping, setting, and serving; and work on your approaches on spiking.

And, exercise-especially your upper arms during your free time. Believe me- it really helps on serving and even spiking.

  2. Below are some tips that I give to beginners and those who need basics.  Hope this will help.

No matter how much you play, FIRST learning the basic skills and using the right forms, motion, and posture is most importanat. If you don't do this, you'll never reach your full potential. I know people who have been playing volleyball for decades but still suck because they never picked up the basic skills. Once you pick up bad moves and it becomes habitual, you're in deep trouble because it's very hard to lose them. Basically, you would always use wrong techniques to pass, set, and hit.

    Passing:

    1. Contact point - Put your hands and forearms together with both arms straight.

You can use the whole forearms to pass but there's a sweet spot right above your wrists. Do not hit the ball with your wrists or fists.

    2. Posture - Bend your knees and keep your arms up making arms and thighs parallel and 90 degrees to your body. It's all about hand-eye coordination. When you keep your arms up they're closer to your eyes.

    3. Motion - Lean forward slightly standing on your forefoot when waiting for serves. This helps you react faster.

Chase the ball, position yourself, get in to 'the posture,' wait for the ball, and let the ball hit your forearms and bounce off.

Don't swing or jump at the ball. You should have the arms up and ready to pass before making the contact.

    Setting:

Locate the ball, position yourself facing where you're setting not the ball, and place your hands above your head. Make a triangle with your hands without touching. See the ball through the triangle making your head, the triagle, and the ball in a straight line. Push up the ball extending your arms and legs. Most important - Hands should be up before you make the contact. Also, use all five fingers with thumbs being the most important. Don't just use the fingertips but the whole lengths of your fingers for better control.

    3. Hitting;

When you swing your arms up to hit, place your elbow, bent about 90 degrees, above and behind your shoulder. The palm should also face away from your head. Swing and fully staighten your arm when making the contact with the ball.

Best way to master the basic skills is to pepper and when you do this, always use the correct posture and full motion. Just pepper a lot whenever you get chance. Repetition makes perfection. Build the right techniqes into your body. Good Luck.

  3. BE AGGRESSIVE! Coaches like the aggressive ones who go for balls. If you mess up, no big deal. Shake it off. Everyone will. Be the one diving left and right to get those balls and i promise you won't be sittin on the bench.

  4. Enjoy yourself!

  5. If you want to work on your passing (because you probably won't be put as a setter on your team because it is your first year) Just get a volleyball and pass on the wall to yourself over and over, like 100 times a day if you do it right it'll improve your passing alot.

  6. Well my theory is simple. I think to play well is to..

    1) ALWAYS BE READY. if your not ready, then how are you suppose to properly send the ball over? being ready is the main key to everything.

-getting ready to pass on service reception.

-(if your a setter) getting ready to recieve that pass

-(power)getting ready for your approach to attack the ball.

    -getting ready to block hits

-getting ready to get the tips

-getting ready to recieve the spike

being constantly ready, down low, on your toes will maintain your ability to recieve the ball!

    2) Your serving. The points count from serving remember!

    and lastly..

    3) Have a good attitude and remain positive during practise and games. Be eager to improve! and play your best during all of your games, even if you dont feel well. staying positive while losing will build up your teams confidence. remember, anything could happen!

i once had a game where it was 8-20 on the second set. We lost the first one. We were what 12 points behind? and we beat them in the second set and beat them on the third.

remember, anything can happen :) stay positive!

  7. always hustle after every ball dont just stand there and let the ball drop in front of u and be very vocal everytime u pass say "I GO" to let ur team mates know its ur ball

  8. work your serves....if you don't make any serves than you won't get any points from them...and also practice passing to a target (the setter) so your setter can set it up to a hitter!!!

  9. when you pass DONT swing your arms slighty bump it but with force. and keep low it helps you move faster. and yell MINE!!! when you want the ball.

    ~me myself and i

  10. yes bump it a lot so your arms get use to the ball otherwise it will hurt a lot

  11. Work on strengthening your legs so that you can react quicker without getting tired. I agree with the poster on getting used to passing with your arms.

  12. just stick with it and practice

heres a tip- dont forget your kneepads

                                      emie and dawn

    a.k.a vollyball players

  13. try and learn spiking( or hitting) a little later. it's a LOT harder than it actually looks, but when you get the hang of it you'll rock. and the over hand serves, they're tricky.

  14. All you need to remember is....BUMP...SET...SPIKE!!!

  15. practice.

    get a good overhand serve.
