  1. Well Friday is pretty soon for someone who is just beginning to serve overhand. But in order to serve overhand, there is a few things you need to remember. First, make sure you are a few feet BEHIND the serving line, just to be careful you do not make a foot fault. You need to slightly have your left foot in front of your right.

    The Toss -

You always want your toss of the ball to be just high enough so you can take a full swing. If you are right handed, you will be throwing the ball with your left. It may feel uncomfortable at first, having to use your left, but you will get the hang of it. Make sure your hand is holding the ball directly, in front of you.

The Serve (and the toss incorporated) -

Use your arms as a bow and arrow (basically how I first learned it). While your left hand will be holding the ball straight in front of you, bring your arm back (it should look like you are elbowing someone in the face). At this point, you will toss the ball just right and extend your right hand (making almost a circle from when you first started), make good contact on the ball, hit it, and always end with a straight arm. (Never bend your arm after you pull it back to elbow someone in the face). Always swing through, hit the ball with your palm with open fingers (never keep them closed or use your fist) and do not stop swinging once you make contact, again, end with a straight arm!!

I was always okay with overhanding serving when I first started. I learned half of the chance of making it over the net is the toss, if you don't have a perfect toss, not too high / low.

It takes practice! It may sound confusing, but when all put together it is quite simple!
