I took her to the ER as SOON as it happened. It really freaked me out. But, My lesson was learned that regardless of if I put pillows up all around her, she can still roll off and she needs to be in a crib. I am a first time Mom and even though they said she was fine I still feel bad about it, and weary. Im scared it could have caused Brain Damage? She hit her forhead when she rolled off,but when she fell, she immediately cried, which is a good thing. However, Im just scared it damaged her brain but its not noticeable. Please any advice is appreciated.

  1. Don't worry about it. Even the best parents in the world who have had tons of babies will go through something like this. My uncle picked me up when I was a toddler and I fell on my head. I don't have any brain damage. I just got a bump on my forehead. If you think she needs to be in a crib, why don't you put her in one? Just try not to leave her on her own and if she is then put her in a playpen or a crib or something with sides. I am sure she is absolutely fine.

  2. shes most likely fine. the brain has alot of cushion around it.

  3. The same exact thing happened to my uncle and aunt and their new born baby. He was only maybe 2 or 3 months old and he rolled off the bed despite how big the bed was and all the pillows around it. She was screaming and crying and they took him to the hospital as soon as it happened. They were also brought in for questioning because it could have been done on purpose according to some dumb *** detectives. They kept questioning my uncle and aunt rather than taking care of their baby that they rushed to the ER. It made me so mad when they told me. Anyway, their baby had a small fracture in his skull, but he's fine now. He has seizures once in awhile when he gets a fever, but I don't know if that was a result of the fall. I read that seizures in babies are common and not something to really worry about. He's had maybe 6 or 7 seizures total and he's almost 3 years old now. Their bed was really high as well. Anyway, he hit the side of his head and the point is he's okay now. It may be different for your daughter but since the situation is pretty much the same I don't think you should really worry until the doctor gives his final prognosis.

  4. oh poor mama!11 this is way more traumatic for you then it is or was for your daughter!! My son feel off of a couch when he was I think 6 months old, now he is 10 months, very smart and functions normally. my mom dropped my sister down a flight of stairs when she was a few months old, and my sister is now a grown woman that is very successful and healthy, and a friend of mine dropped her baby off of the hospital bed while in the hospital recovering from a c-section, and that baby is now a normal healthy happy 9 year old boy!!!

Seriously it happens to almost everyone!!!

If you damaged her brain you would know!!! she would either be screaming at the top of her lungs (still) or you would notice changes in her like not acting like herself, sleeping alot, not looking at you! seriously!! Just cause she can't talk doesn't mean she can't tell you somethings wrong with her!! calm down mama!! your baby's fine and your not the first of last mother to have a baby take a spill!!! Don't beat yourself up anymore!!!!!!!

  5. i always fell of the bed when i was little... and yes i was on a king most of the time.. and like 3 times on my head...lol i turned out good...well i think...shes fine... the human skull is the hardest in the body and the brain is inside it for a reason...=D

  6. My sister's son fell off their king sized bed once and fell straight on the top of his head and kind of bent his head back funny. She was worried about his neck most of all since it bent back so much, but he turned out completely fine...just a bit sore and scared, more from the fall than anything. As long as your daughter has been alert and acting the same as she was before the fall, I wouldn't worry about it. Kids are a lot more resilient than we realize!! Think about what kind of damage "shaking baby syndrome" causes, and that's from violent repeated shaking of a baby. Your daughter just bumped her head once, and like you said she immediately started to cry. If there had been some kind of brain trauma, she probably would have been knocked unconscious or not reacted as much as you would expect.  Also, think about the number of people who have fallen much larger distances and turned out okay. I think she'll be fine. Since this is your first, it's easy to think the worst of everything with them, but soon you will get over the bumps and scrapes, because she's going to get A LOT of them as she gets older and starts walking!! Def. keep her in a crib...they're very squirmy and crafty!

  7. Hmm... I think every baby has taken a bad spill at least once in their lifetime and most are just fine and functioning properly as they get older, no damage done from the fall.

I know it's scary, but as long as you make sure you do your best to keep it from happening again I really doubt your baby is going to have any long term effects. Luckily, babies still have soft bones so most likely nothing is going to be broken, or messed up indefinitely. Good Luck and I'm sure you baby is fine.
