  1. its simple really think of it as taking a walk in the park or whatever.

    btw

    y=mx+b is a equation for graphing here is how i solve these.

    btw you will get alot of help if you have a graphing calc.

    b is the y intercept.

    m is the slope

    y is the coordinate.

    you need to find the slope so use this equation. m=y2-y1/x2-x1

    i know too many y's and x's so simplify y2 is point b(-4) and y1 is point b 6 and same for the x2 is 2 and x1 is -3. m=-4-6/2-(-3) solve.

    you get -4 which is the slope!

    y=-4x+b now solve for the y intercept!

    take any of the two coordinates and put them in the equation.

    -3=-4(6)+b now solv the equation. and you get 21=b or (0,21) so fill it in y=-4x+21 now try it by putting a pair of coordinates in the equation.

    -3=-4(6)+21 and solve this equation and you get -3=-3 which is equal to each other. this is a cool but long way any one with a better way welcome come on in! lol good luck.

  2. you need to know m (slope) and b (y-intercept)

    slope = (y - y) / (x - x) = (6 - -4) / (-3 - 2) = 10 / -5 = -2

    so m = -2

    we know that when x = 2, y = -4, so we can use this to find b

    y = -2x + b

    -4 = -2(2) + b

    --4 = -4 + b

    b = 0

    so y = -2x + 0, or

    y = -2x

    (you can check both points to make sure this satisfies them both...)

  3. First, you will need to find the slope (or 'm' in the equation). To do this, find the distance between them along the Y axis and divide it by the distance between them along the X axis (rise over run). You can do this by drawing a right triangle using the two points, or subtracting the Y values from eachother, and then subtracting the X values from eachother.

    -3 - 2 = -5 <--- X axis

    6- -4 = 10 <--- Y axis

    The slope would be:

    10(rise) / -5 (run) = -2

    Now that you have the slope (m) you have to find b.

    To do this you insert one of the given points in for your X and Y in the equation

    y = mx + b

    y = -2x + b (we already found m)

    6 = -2(-3) + b (using the points (-3,6) given in the problem)

    6 = 6 + b

    subtract 6 to both sides

    0 = b

    This gives us our completed equation:

    y = -2x + 0 or y = -2x

    You can use the other point to check your work

    y = -2x + b

    -4 = -2(2) + b (using the points (2, -4) given in the problem)

    -4 = -4 + b

    add 4 to both sides

    0 = b

    y = -2x + 0  or

    y = -2x

  4. well, you can find the slope.

    -3 to 2 is a run of +5

    6 to -4 is a rise of -10

    the slope is -10/5, or -2.

    After that I forget.

    EDIT: Since it goes through the origin, there is no b?
