  1. Don't be nervous it, will make your horse nervous too. Instead think about how much fun your going to have riding her and take a few deep breaths. Have fun!

  2. let your trainer know that. they may be able to do some confidence exersises to help you. also, know that when you get scared, the horse can feel it, and they may get scared too. if you are relaxed, they will be relaxed too.

  3. I've taken riding lessons before and I can understand your anxiety.  However, do the best that you can to be relaxed.  Horses are very smart animals and they can often sense when a person is nervous, which can result in them being anxious as well.  Be patient, relax and have fun.

  4. Talk yourself into confidence, something my riding teachers always told me was to be the boss of the horse. Even if you don't feel deep down like you could run a race on her, act like you do. Horses are amazing animals that can pick up feelings and body signals showing ether confidence or uncertainty. I used to feel the same way, but as I got to know the horse (trust it) I realized that the horse had to be able to trust me too, I had to know what I was doing for the horse to be okay with me riding it (asking of it). Ask to tack up your horse and groom it, this will build relationship with the horse and it gains trust, with trust comes confidence. Never act scared of the horse, or else he will feel the same way. The more you ride, the better you will be and you can do more. I didn't bridle the horse at my first lesson, it happens with time. Horses are big animals, but they've got a big heart to go with it.

  5. O that's great that you started to ride! Just remember NOT to get nervous when your on the horse because they can sense it. Remember to have fun and enjoy the ride!!! Theres nothing to be afraid of!!

  6. If you are learning to ride at a reputable stables, then don't worry too much. They will choose you a horse that is suited to beginners, and it should be safe enough for you to ride. The horses and ponies given to beginners are usually placid and well behaved.

But if you do feel that the horse you are riding is difficult to control, then you should say so. They can then either give you a different horse or help you to improve your technique.

  7. I can relate. The first time I got on a horse and he started trotting, I was so scared I thought I was going to faint. But don't worry, I was only 6 years old. Its not really that scary. Don't be nervous and relax. A horse can tell when your tense. You will be fine as long as you have chosen a good stable.
